The 6th Power Grid Model Meetup – Our First Full-Day Event and a Growing Community
On 16 May 2025, the LF Energy Power Grid Model (PGM) community gathered at Delft University of Technology for the first-ever full-day meetup. With 80+ participants joining both in person and online, the event combined hands-on technical workshops, an interactive hackathon session with four collaborative projects, and a vibrant afternoon of presentations and networking.
The morning sessions were tailored for developers and maintainers eager to dive deep into the PGM environment. Participants explored real-world scenarios in technical workshops, including a workshop of the Power Grid Model Data Science (PGM-DS) toolkit — a powerful new extension for grid modeling and data science. The hackathon offered a unique opportunity to collaborate closely with PGM maintainers, gaining practical experience, and contributing directly to ongoing projects.
As the day progressed, the afternoon program opened to the broader community. Engaging presentations highlighted innovative applications of PGM, such as advanced data import techniques and deep learning methods for transformer control. A keynote by Prof. Dr. Peter Palensky provided expert insights into sophisticated computational approaches for power systems. Lightning talks further showcased exciting developments including co-simulation, enhanced data science capabilities, and faster load flow calculations.
The event concluded with a lively social networking session, fostering connections and sparking discussions on the project’s future. Attendees shared valuable feedback and brainstormed feature ideas, ensuring the community’s voice helps shape PGM’s roadmap.
About Power Grid Model
PGM is an open-source project focused on high-performance steady-state analysis of distribution power systems, with significant contributions from Alliander. It empowers real-time simulations, scenario analyses, and actionable insights into grid behavior—making it an essential tool in managing the growing complexity of modern electricity networks. For more information about the project, please refer to Power Grid Model.
