The LF Energy SEAPATH community gathered at LF Energy Summit in Brussels on September 5 and 6, 2024, for a meetup hosted by Eloi Bail of Savoir-faire Linux. SEAPATH aims to develop a “reference design” and “industrial grade” open source real-time platform that can run virtualized automation and protection applications for power substations and other use cases. Organizations represented at the meetup included Belden, GE Vernova, RedHat, RTE, Savoir-faire Linux, and Welotec.
Eloi engaged with meetup attendees to understand:
- Which features of SEAPATH are most valued by the community?
- What are the next challenges to be addressed?
- What features would the community like to see more of in SEAPATH?
Feedback gathered from the SEAPATH community during the meetup included:
- Positivity around the fact that SEAPATH is open source and highly adaptable.
- Appreciation of the fact that Ansible is used to automate and reproduce configuration steps.
- The SEAPATH community would also like to release a first official version of SEAPATH around which a production release and support offers can be created.
Based on the feedback at the meetup, the SEAPATH maintainers will take the following steps:
- Pursue a POC to merge the git branches used for different SEAPATH versions.
- Align a common version of Ceph.
Once this work has been completed and tested, the community will evaluate the effort involved in switching to Ceph-Adm and decide whether or not to include it in the first official release of SEAPATH, which will be unveiled by the end of 2024.
