LF Energy Summit Europe 2026: Keynote Lineup Announced

LF Energy Summit Europe comes to Berlin on September 15 and 16, 2026, bringing together grid operators, vendors, researchers, and open source contributors building the digital foundation for energy together. Today, LF Energy is announcing the lineup of keynote speakers who will present plenary sessions focused on the themes of open source in action in the energy sector, and the important topic of digital sovereignty.

Event Overview

LF Energy Summit Europe is the annual gathering for the community building open source software, standards, and data for the energy sector. Over two days, attendees will hear from grid operators, vendors, and policymakers on how open source projects like Power Grid Model, OpenSTEF, and PowSyBl are running in production today, plus what is next for the portfolio.

Day 1 Keynotes: Open Source in Action

Welcome and Opening Remarks

Alex Thornton, Executive Director of LF Energy, opens the Summit with an introduction to LF Energy for newcomers, a look back at the past year, and the community’s major announcements.

Delivering Flexibility Through Open Source

Mark Nigge-Uricher, Senior Business Developer at Alliander, walks through how open source enables utilities to collaborate on the digital foundations for capacity management, forecasting, and grid optimization, and how utilities can move beyond the traditional “build vs. buy” mindset toward a “build together” approach.

Sponsored Keynote: Running the Agentic Grid, From Open Models to Operating Model

Yu Jiang, Managing Director and Data & AI Practice Lead, Sia, presents a sponsored keynote on moving from open models to an operating model for the agentic grid.

Day 2 Keynotes: Open Source for Digital Sovereignty

European Digital Sovereignty

Rolf Riemenschneider, Head of Sector IoT, European Commission, shares a European Union level view on digital sovereignty.

Pooling Code, Keeping Control

Nathalie Lemaître, Managing Director of the Customers, Systems and Innovation Division, RTE, discusses why open source has become a strategic imperative for European transmission system operators, and how vendor-neutral software helps grid operators move fast on innovation, share development costs, and retain control over critical infrastructure.

From Energy Sovereignty to Digital Sovereignty

Andreas Prins, Global Head Sovereign Solutions, SUSE, draws a line from Europe’s 1950s energy integration to today’s push for digital sovereignty, making the case that the same coordination model, applied to software, is how the energy sector can turn sovereignty from policy into infrastructure.

Closing Remarks

Stephan Gross, Europe Community Director, LF Energy.
