SUMMARY:Webinar - GEISA: Addressing edge interoperability at the meter
DESCRIPTION:This webinar will introduce the Grid Edge Security and Interoperability Alliance\, or GEISA\, an effort within LF Energy to address application interoperability at the very edge of the utility network: meters and other distribution automation devices. Over the last decade platform manufacturers have introduced the ability to run applications on electricity meters and other edge devices. Unfortunately\, while many of these efforts have been built on Linux\, they haven’t been interoperable. APIs and execution environment have varied from one manufacturer to the next making it impossible for utilities to obtain applications that they can run across a fleet of different devices. For utilities that want to minimize their supply chain risk by obtaining equipment from multiple suppliers\, they are forced to run and maintain multiple separate management systems. Applications available for one device may need to be ported to run on another\, or they may not be available at all. \nGEISA addresses this by creating a vendor neutral specification for utility edge computing environments. This webinar will discuss why GEISA is important to utilities\, the specific issues GEISA will solve and the new opportunities it creates for utilities\, platform vendors\, and application vendors.

SUMMARY:Webinar: The Power Grid Model Story: Advancing Grid Calculations Through Collaborative Open Source Innovation
DESCRIPTION:The Power Grid Model Story\nWe’re delighted to invite you to join us for a webinar on the history of Power Grid Model on Monday\, 20 January 2025. \nWe’ll cover: \n\nwhy Alliander started Power Grid Model and how it grew\nhow it’s currently used outside Alliander\nthe community’s ambitions for the future\n\nThere will be an opportunity for live questions from the audience. The webinar will also be recorded and available afterwards. \nAbout Power Grid Model\nThe global energy transition is placing new and unprecedented demands on Distribution System Operators (DSOs). Alongside upgrades to grid capacity\, processes such as digitization\, capacity optimization\, and congestion management are becoming vital for delivering reliable services. \nPower Grid Model is an open source project from Linux Foundation Energy and provides a calculation engine that is increasingly essential for DSOs. It offers a standards-based foundation enabling real-time power systems analysis\, simulations of electrical power grids\, and sophisticated what-if analysis. In addition\, it enables in-depth studies and analysis of the electrical power grid’s behavior and performance. This comprehensive model incorporates essential factors such as power generation capacity\, electrical losses\, voltage levels\, power flows\, and system stability. \nPower Grid Model is currently being applied in a wide variety of use cases\, including grid planning\, expansion\, reliability\, and congestion studies. It can also help in analyzing the impact of renewable energy integration\, assessing the effects of disturbances or faults\, and developing strategies for grid control and optimization. \nAgenda\n15.30-15.35 – Welcome and Introduction – Peter Salemink \n15.35-15.45 – Part 1: Power Grid Model Origins: The Case for In-House Investment in Distribution Power System Calculations – Werner van Westering \n15.45-15.55 – Part 2: Professionalizing Power Grid Calculations with the Power Grid Model – Tony Xiang \n15.55-16.05 – Part 3: Alliander’s Strategic Commitment to Open Source and the Power Grid Model Journey to open source – Arjan Stam \n16.05-16.15 – Part 4: Scaling Up the Application of the Power Grid Model at Alliander – Jaap Schouten \n16.15-16.25 – Part 5: Using Power Grid Model for research at Eindhoven University of Technology – Nikolaos Paterakis \n16.25-16.35 – Part 6: Future vision for Power Grid Model – Tony Xiang and Jonas van den Bogaard \n16.35-16.45 – Closing – Peter Salemink
